Tale as old as time My job paid absolute poverty wages- I took the job on as I saw it as a learning opportunity- a place to learn new skills. It was a family run business so all round. show

The stress and pressure got to much- they demanded way too much for the money and reminded me constantly of how bad I was at the job- insinuating | was super replaceable

I wanted to quit the day after they brought me into the office to basically give a me a run down of all the things I've done wrong.

So it's my last week and low and behold they bring me into the office again to love bomb me to dh-telling me how much my work has improved (in the last 2 days) and how they would love to give me a pay rise-

I respectably declined. It irks me that they were consciously underpaying me and made me feel Worthless but when it's time for me to leave I'm the golden employee that they beg to stay.

Ive regained my confidence as they've confirmed that my work has been good and I did deserve more money. Quiting was super empowering and honestly feels amazing. Highly recommend!

diamondstonkhands I hate to say this but feel the need to for others. Small and local companies sometimes keep you feeling you are not doing well so you won't ask for raise. It's a small business owner mindset and why

Urbanwriter Your story reminds me of the old timey song "You Can Take That Job and Shove It!" Congratulations on gathering the courage to quit and I wish you well on your search for a new job.

Cold_Sold1eR You are going to have many more situations like that before you find the right job for you! That confidence will be invaluable for the future.

Green-League145 How much they were paying you and then how much was the raised?
  • 21
Sorry-Personality594 OP £12 an hour (for skilled work) I didn't even ask what the raise was as it didn't matter. I took the job on as a massive pay cut because I thought I could.
